What exactly are bulging or prominent eyes?
Both terms refer to abnormal protrusion of the eyeball from the socket. Bulging eyes are acquired and usually a result of a medical condition, while prominent eyes are hereditary and tend to be less serious. The eye socket, also known as the orbit, is made up of four bones, all tasked with protecting the eye. If there is not enough space in the socket, namely, if the back portion of the socket it too narrow, the eyeball will protrude.
