Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy (SSRO)

In order to retract a whole protruding jaw, it is a kind of popular surgery, the rear portion of the protruding mandibular jaw is resected and overlapped and then is fixed.

Advantage
① The Fixation period is a little short as the period to consolidate jaw bones is short and they can be fixed completely.
② Asymmetry and even mandibular hypoplasia can be corrected.
③ Postoperative result is excellent aesthetically.

Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy (IVRO)

This surgery is not needed to fix pins or wires for fixation, and the surgical technique is to osteotomize the mandibular jaw vertically

Advantage
④ It is rarely possible to damage nerves because the rare portion of an area which nerves are situated in is osteotomize and corrected.
⑤ Postoperative recovery is fast because the operation time is short in comparison with SSRO.
⑥ Temporomandibular joints are not strained
